Received a bill in the mail from Montgomery Ward for $492.78 stating that they needed a check, money order or credit card information to process our order. Only problem is...the bill was in my 13 year old childs name who never placed the order

Someone tried to buy 2-Stereo systems using my childs name and an old email address.

I called the Montgomery Ward customer service at 877-557-**** and talked to a Danielle.

She apologized for the inconvenience and told me she would cancel the order and put a fraud note on the account and on my childs name so it would not be used again. She is also suppose to send a loss prevention package to complete and return. From reading other posts and advice on this site, I am not sure if I will complete and return any paperwork due to the possibility of more fraud and identity theft.

From the reviews and recent articles I have read, it appears that Montgomery Ward has had some issues with cyber security and customer service. The company did do the right thing by sending the letter requesting money upfront instead of filling and shipping the order and then sending the invoice after.

Reason of review: Fraudulent order.

Preferred solution: Let the company propose a solution.

Location: 1112 7th Ave, Monroe, WI 53566, USA

"From reading other posts and advice on this site, I am not sure if I will complete and return any paperwork due to the possibility of more fraud and identity theft." EXACTLY! Your mark was very young.

Ours is very old, in her 90's and supposedly opening accounts and ordering electronic junk. After a lot of run-around, we got an email "requiring" us to go to the "identitytheft" form on the FTC's website. To "print off" and send to M Wards. ??

Then, that FTC form requires you to fill in DOB, current address, veteran status and who knows what else. None of which M Ward knows at this point and - - duh - - obviously very useful to people running or collaborating with a fraud. This is a bad, untrustworthy company. PS: We get the "money upfront" letters too, regarding ongoing attempts by the crook to steal more things.

Why not, M Ward, figure out who's sending you these orders instead of sending these ridiculous letters? We've told you all we know.
